About the Farm

Sítio Família Protázio is located in Espera Feliz, in the Caparaó region, on the border between Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais. The family is internationally recognized for producing high-quality specialty coffees rooted in family tradition, high-altitude cultivation, and careful post-harvest practices.

The farm operates at elevations reaching approximately 1,300 meters above sea level, with varieties such as Red Catuaí, Catucaí, Gesha, and Caparaó Amarelo. Its coffees are known for complex sensory profiles, often expressing tropical fruit, caramel, chocolate, and bright acidity.

Production Approach

The Protázio family represents a strong example of family agriculture, where knowledge, discipline, and passion for coffee are passed from one generation to the next.

Fábio Protázio de Abreu played a central role in the transition from commodity coffee to specialty coffee in 2006, focusing on selective harvesting of ripe cherries, improved processing methods, and quality-driven lot separation.

Today, Fábio and Flávio “Kaká” Protázio continue to manage key stages of production and roasting, ensuring consistency, traceability, and sensory excellence across the family’s lots.

Background

The family legacy began under the leadership of Manoel Protázio de Abreu, patriarch and pioneer of the family’s quality-focused coffee production.

Under his leadership, Café Família Protázio achieved major recognition, including 1st place at the CNA Brasil Artesanal 2024 Award. The family also gained national prominence when Guilherme Abreu Vieira Filho de Fábio won Coffee of the Year 2025, with a coffee produced at Sítio Família Protázio and recognized as the Best Arabica Coffee in Brazil.

Their trajectory reflects the strength of Caparaó specialty coffee: family heritage, technical evolution, and coffees with identity, complexity, and national distinction.
