Flávio “Kaká” Protázio

Award-winning specialty coffee producer from the Família Protázio.

About the Farm

Sítio Família Protázio is located in Espera Feliz, in the Caparaó region, on the border between Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais. The family is internationally recognized for producing specialty coffees that combine high-altitude cultivation, family tradition, and refined sensory quality.

The farm operates at elevations reaching approximately 1,300 meters above sea level, working with varieties such as Red Catuaí, Catucaí, and Gesha. Its coffees are frequently associated with complex sensory notes, including tropical fruits, yellow fruits, caramel, and delicate sweetness.

Production Approach

Flávio “Kaká” Protázio is one of the leading producers within the Família Protázio, managing important stages of production and quality development alongside his family.

His work focuses on sensory excellence, careful selection, and the production of expressive specialty coffee lots with distinctive cup profiles.

Kaká’s coffees are known for sweetness, structure, and aromatic complexity, with profiles that may evoke yellow fruits such as cashew, mango, and peach, along with caramel-like notes and a creamy character.

Background

Kaká is part of a traditional coffee-growing family from Caparaó. The family legacy began with Manoel Protázio de Abreu, patriarch and pioneer of the family’s quality-focused coffee production.

Together with Fábio Protázio and Guilherme Protázio, Kaká continues the family’s evolution in the specialty coffee market, combining inherited knowledge with modern quality standards.

His coffees have received significant recognition, including a lot auctioned for R$ 26,000 at the Conexão Caparaó auction, as well as recognition in Minas Gerais specialty coffee competitions. This trajectory reinforces his position as one of the distinctive producers within the Caparaó specialty coffee scene.
